Instead of being cool by releasing the highly sought-after
MGS2 mini-figures as a complete set, Konami randomly inserts
the eight figures into Candy Toy boxes. There are no marks
on the outside of the Candy Toys to distinguish one from
another. Each carton contains 15 assorted Candy Toys but
there's a good chance that you'll get three Raidens, two
Metal Gear Rays, or seven Revolver Ocelots. This lack of
transparency will possibly lead to much swapping, trading,
and bartering between collectors in the aftermarket. Too add
insult to injury, Konami seals each toy inside a black
plastic bag so we couldn't poke a little hole in each box
and peek inside even if we wanted to.
In our sample that we opened this morning, we
received a Hal Emmerich (Otacon) figure. The detail is
superb with wrinkles in Ota's trousers, a lift in his
labcoat, and clean lines which cut throughout. His laptop
attaches to his hand and a shiny MGS2 pedestal serves as a
mounting base for the figure. NCS supplies each MGS2 candy
toy at US$5.50 or US$75 for an entire factory sealed
box.
