The way of sumo is called sumodo, echoing bushido, the
way of the samurai. Far from fat men in big thongs with big
breasts, sumotori are highly trained, muscular men
who practice the sport of sumo. It's hardly wrestling or the
comic shenanigans of the WWE as we have seen described
elsewhere. The gist of sumo pits two men against each other
in a clay ring. With deft slaps, pushes, and grappling, the
aim is to push any part of the opponent's body (except the
feet) outside the ring. If a opponent is a light-weight, he
may be lifted out of the ring by the straps of his mawashi.
Konami captures the spirit and action of sumo with a
licensed game which features action-packed grappling,
technique, and the ability to break free of certain holds
with joystick mangling moves. Forty professional sumo are
featured in the game including former and current yokozuna,
sumo who have reached the highest level of the sport. As
each match begins, an entrance ceremony commences with the
name of the sumo being called out by an announcer, applause
from the crowd and all the pomp and circumstance one would
expect from a big match.
