Virtual On Marz

While we remember them fondly, the Saturn and
Dreamcast never reached audiences of critical mass. We're
talking 20-25 million consoles worldwide. Numbers which
enamor publishers and guarantee even middling software
releases acceptable sell-through volume. With this in mind,
Sega targets the PS2 with a new console exclusive edition of
their Virtual On mech fighting game shipping on May 29,
2003.
A favorite of armchair mech drivers since the Saturn heyday,
Virtual On drops a player into the chassis of a dashing mech
fighter. Using both close-range as well as long range
projectile attacks, players take control of a Virtuaroid and
battle another in various polygonal arenas. A jump-jet move
allows for quick escape from incoming ordnance or gives an
aerial advantage for your sniping skills. Marz strays from
this formula somewhat by breaking the game into levels. In
the default Dramatic Mode of
the VO Marz, players are pitted against opponents in a
series of arena battles and missions before the game
launches a boss at him/her. Best the boss and you're on to a
new set of battles, mission objectives and bosses.
Returning to the field are upgraded versions of Virtuaroids such as
Temjin (707 and 747 series), Fei-Yen, Apharmd J and T series
and the Raiden series. Although Sega does not plan
production of a new Twinstick for the PS2, a "Twinstick-esque"
controller mode for the Dual Shock 2 allows the use of the
two thumb pads for movement and all four top triggers for
jumping and shooting.
NCS is currently only accepting preorders for the ASIAN territory
version of Virtua On Marz. The ASIAN version of a game is
identical to the JAPANESE territory version of a game with
the exception of two things: |
|
1) Distribution marks on the back cover of
the game list it as the ASIAN version |
|
2) An English/Chinese language quick-start
insert is included inside the game |
|
To re-iterate, the ASIAN version
contains a Japanese manual and game CD. |
