Onimusha Buraiden
Preorder - Ships Nov. 20, 2003 |

Earlier this year, Capcom took the Onimusha franchise on a
tangent by releasing
Onimusha Tactics for the
Gameboy Advance. In another couple of months, 3-D Onimusha
fighting takes center stage when Cap releases Onimusha
Buraiden (Onimusha Blade Warriors) on the Playstation 2.
Familiar faces featured in the game include Akechi Samanosuke,
Kaede, Oyu and Yagyu Jubei as well as the evil or Genma
incarnations of the fighters. Samanosuke wields the Ogre
Gauntlet which gives him magical offensive power as well as
the ability to absorb soul power from defeated foes. Downed
warriors give up the ghost which appear in the game as
luminous orbs which revive your own power levels. When two
soul sucking fighters are present, a duel of drawing orbs
may occur where lines of energy show the attraction of the
orbs as they waver between two anxious fighters.

Up to four players may bout at once and battle on stages
which range from flat terrain to multi-tiered environments
where buildings, ledges and other structures serve as
platforms to hop upon and fight. Attack moves in the game
invariably consist of overhead sword slashes, sidearm
slicing and forward thrusts. Magical attacks add a little
variety to the action as well as the ability to hurt a
number of attackers at once.
Fighters may parry blows by adopting an offensive posture and
sizzling sword draws are possible where the blades of two
fighters meet and chisel into each other for a few seconds
while sparks spit out.
Onimusha Buraiden ships in November 20, 2003 and should tide fans
over until Onimusha 3 in early 2K4. After that, perhaps we
can look forward to Onimusha kart/wagon racing... |
