PS2 New Century GPX Cyber Formula

Watching the introduction to Cyber Formula, one can't help but marvel at how low to the ground the vehicles in the game are. They're blazing on solid asphalt with smooth, uninterrupted motion and its a bit surreal. The intro also introduces a few of the sassy drivers of the cars as they spin and pose for the camera in their anime splendor. Upon starting the game, one realizes that this is a drift-racing game where the vehicle is allowed to slide as the track blows by at high speeds. The visuals are polished and reflections dance off the top of your futuristic vehicle as it passes under the sun, street lights and other illuminative sources. The control is rather good with the ability to move the vehicle with alternating acceleration and braking to keep from smashing into the sides of the road.

A boost meter on the lower left corner of the screen shows how much juice is available to ignite your afterburners to overtake competitors while a position gauge on the top-right shows your rank during the race out of 6 contenders. When one passes a slowpoke, a little window will pop up which shows an animation of your driver as he whizzes past. We only raced on the Midtown New York track this morning but while we recognize the United Nations building and what seemed to be Madison Square Garden, the other buildings are fairly non-descript.
