In the year 2044, space
flight has progressed to the point where regular folk are able to take short
trips through space and bases have been established on the moon. In one
particular sojourn around the moon, 38 passengers are suddenly in dire straits
when their space cruiser encounters difficulties and crashes on the surface of
Luna.
Richard Osmond rouses from his slumber amidst darkness and catches
a glimpse of his fiance Claudia Selfar inside the ruined ship...but it is only
an apparition. The other passengers are nowhere to be found. Confused and
slightly aghast, Richard stumbles into a nearby moonbase to seek answers.
In the
latest Echo Night, players encounter numerous spirits in the moon base who are
unhappy and unfulfilled. To release them from the longings that bind them to the
base, Richard is charged with fulfilling their wishes. Along with the spirits
who are longing for wish fulfillment, angry ghosts also roam the corridors in
search of living prey. Cameras located throughout the base keep tabs on
locations of evil spirits who may cause Richard's heart to race. If his
heartbeat throttles to over 300, he will suffer a heart attack and join his
aggressors in the afterlife. There are no weapons or ghost busting equipment
available to Richard and his only defense against malicious spirits is rampant
flight by rushing into safe areas. Fog overhang marks the areas where evil ghosts
roam and quick jaunts through them are recommended unless Richard has something
to soothe their savagery... Along the way, Richard also searches for Claudia to
discover her fate.
The Echo Night series of games deal with discarnate spirits - some of the spooks
are enraged at their predicaments while others who are just there as literal
lurking horrors. The three Echo Night games throw some clever puzzles at players
along with interesting storylines. Fans of the series will notice that the main
character is always Richard Osmond. |
