An early shipment of Onimusha 3 arrived today and approximately
half of our preorders are shipping this afternoon. The
rest of our preorders and new orders will ship on
Wednesday or Thursday when our usual shipments arrive.
It is 1582, ten years after the scenario set forth in Onimusha 2
and the armies of Oda Nobunaga are on the move. The
centerpiece of this mighty force is a massive insect in
which a lone ninja is hiding. An army of skeletal
warriors are on the hunt and the ninja is soon
surrounded by menacing undead. Dispatching a few and
then sucking up the aimless souls, the masked hero performs a
whirling fire attack and soon has the crowd in flames.
As he makes his way deeper into the recesses of the
living caravan, more resistance is encountered but
they're no match for honed ninja skills. In a battle
against two bruisers wielding spears, the ninja's masked
is unfurled to reveal Samanosuke. Eventually, the two
ogres give way to a demon lord who forges a sword in
midair and goes on the attack. Sam holds his own against
the rampaging demon but the battle stalls temporarily when Samanosuke
severs the brain stem of the massive insect. Ensuing explosions destroy the entire army in a wide area
conflagration. After the dust settles, demon lord and Samanosuke face off again but Sam
draws all of the newly
minted souls to his gauntlet and evolves into something
godly. Two sword strokes later, demon is soon shuffling
off the mortal coil and Oda Nobunaga awaits...
Scene shift.
The year is 2004 and a demonic invasion is underway in Paris. The
city is awash in blood as Genma demons mow through the citizenry with unrelenting sword slashes and
thrusts. A soldier named Jacques Blanc is relaxing on a
side street when a call comes through on his cellphone.
He soon joins the
contingent of troops who have been called up to defend
the city. Elsewhere in Paris, on a side street, Samanosuke appears - transported through time and space
from his final battle against Nobunaga to Paris. As
Jacques battles, Samanosuke leaps into action and
dispatches two Genma demons before they can slice up
Jacques. Alas, whereas Samonosuke appears in Paris,
Jacques is suddenly sent back to feudal Japan to face
his own set of demons...
Onimusha 3 gives players control over Samanosuke and Jacques in
their respective time periods. Takeshi Kaneshiro
reprises his role as Samanosuke while French actor Jean
Reno plays the part of Jacques Blanc. Reno's video hero
likeness is rather good with facial features true to
life, down to the saddlebags under his eyes.
Action-wise, the game play similarly to previous
Onimusha games with sword attacks, combo attacks and
juggling those attacks with the soul suction of the
demon gauntlet. Capcom is apparently closing the
Onimusha series with this game and it's a dandy
swansong. |
