Astro Boy Tetsuwan Atom

PS2 Astro Boy Tetsuwan Atom - In Stock

Thrusting through the skies of Astro City upon a 100,000 horse-power fusion reactor, Astro Boy battles the forces of evil with strength, smarts, and the metal burning flash of the finger laser. When in flight, Astro Boy moves with ease and hovers, darts and swoops with intuitive controls guiding the mighty mite. When battling, AB may grab large foes and swing them around (ala Mario on Bowser in Mario 64), punch, and blast out lasers to press the offensive. Objects may also be hefted and hurled for variety in the attack department. The illusion of flight is reasonably well done and Astro gives off the impression of weight and gravity during flying sojourns.

Armored Core: Nexus

PS2 Armored Core: Nexus - In Stock

The latest and greatest looking AC peeks to the past but also looks to the future with a 2-disk Y7800 package. The first disk is colored red and titled "Revolution" where 40 classic missions from the Armored Core lineage are gathered together along with cinemas and sound collections. The second disk is colored blue and labeled "Evolution" where the missions are brand spanking new and game parameters change depending on the actions of the player. High temperatures play a larger part in shutting down weapons when they overheat and well as affect mech performance. The default controls have also been updated to what we consider a superior scheme but those who are used to the old style may remap the buttons back.

Katamari Damacy

PS2 Katamari Damacy - In Stock

To redeem his father's transgressions against the stars in the heavens, Oji-sama (Prince) has to roll. Oji starts small with a nucleus of material which emits magical magnetic power and little objects such as saws, bottles, and boxes are soon attracted to the mass and add to its growing morass. In the early going, larger objects prove to be obstacles rather than fodder for the rolling but once Oji's ball grows a little larger, bigger items become fair game for girth seeking gamers. Once enough garbage, material, folk and anything else that might be in the way are snatched up, entire buildings become mere pickup sticks for Oji and his miraculous mass of matter. Control of the "ball" is mastered through the Dual Shock thumb sticks and maneuverability gets tougher as the mass grows ever larger.
The game is a light-hearted and highly enjoyable romp but the sight of citizens adhering to a mass of mass construction may be offsetting to tender hearted gamers. The hapless souls who become stuck to the ball shiver, twitch and shake like little trapped insects. Ever see a fly whose wings have become helplessly glued to a spider's web? Those little legs flail and stammer as the fly ponders it's fate - not knowing that a predator will soon cocoon it for tomorrow's breakfast. That's what the human attachments are reminiscent of...sans the spider. Katamari Damacy probably won't sell any appreciable numbers but kudos should be given to Namco for testing an offbeat premise which may well become our sleeper of the year.

Sakura Mysterious Paris

PS2 Sakura Taisen Monogatari: Mysterious Paris - In Stock

Eschewing the tactical strategy sequences found in previous Sakura Taisen games entirely, the latest in the popular franchise delves deeper into the interaction genre than it's ever gone before. Utilizing the LIPS engine, characters move their mouths in near-perfect harmony to the audible words.
The storyline takes place six months after the events in Sakura Taisen 4 and Paris is the geographic focal point. The Paris Kagekidan introduced in Sakura Taisen 3 provides the main characters in the game and players may enjoy new interludes with Erica Fontaine, Glycine Bleumer and the rest of the gang. Oogami Ichiro no longer serves as the main protagonist and a sleuth by the name of Kojirou Akechi shows up as the new male lead.

Shin Sangoku Musou 3 Empires

PS2 Shin Sangoku Musou 3 Empires - In Stock

Back in the day, Koei developed published resource management/war games exclusively. The company's bread and butter was in games such as Sangokushi, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga's Ambition. The highly successful SSM franchise gets a little of that style of gameplay back in Empires. Along with the familiar 3-D hack 'n slash action of the series, players are now required to maintain bastions in conquered states as well as develop resources and blacksmiths for higher weapon levels. Diligent resource management and allocation also helps to increase income from territories which in turn contributes to the health of armies under one's control.

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch

GBA Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Live Start - In Stock

The lovable and bubbly mermaids from Pichi Pichi Pitch are featured once again in a Dance Dance Revolution variant where arrows rush upstream and players strike the appropriate directions and buttons as the arrows hit the marking tags. Fare well by matching arrows rhythm skills and the music plays properly. Foul up the procession of arrows with uncoordinated clumsiness and the music starts to sound ill. Mini-games may also be enjoyed including a concentration game, carnival grab, and others.

One Piece Going Baseball

Chopper throws a fastball

GBA One Piece Going Baseball - In Stock

Luffy and friends take a break from their quest towards the Grand Line and hit the diamond. Battling six possible crews from the One Piece animation such as "Marine," "Alabaster," and "Baroque Works," every team contains easily recognizable characters as they take the field and play a rousing game of baseball. There's a seventh team which may be unlocked once all other six squads are defeated. One Piece Baseball is enjoyable and addictive but the fielding in the game is broken. It's entirely controlled by the AI and the plays that it executes defy logic. For example, if there's two men on base and the batter bunts a slow roller, the AI will throw to 3rd base (too late, to get an out) instead of going to first base for the easy out.
The gimmick in the game sits solely on the characters and their renown in the anime world but Luffy's special stretching powers and Sanzi's kicking skills are relegated only to sight gags and have no bearing on the actual gameplay. Roronoah Zoro and a few other brigands bat with their swords but again, this is simply a sight gag and has no effect whatsoever on the gameplay. No fast balls are sliced or diced despite the swordplay. A special power-up move may be activated by holding down the Right or Left trigger + A button but it's the same for every character when batting or pitching.

POT: Glorious Gold

POT: Stylish Silver

GBA Prince of Tennis 2004: Glorious Gold/Stylish Silver

In the year 2003, there was Prince of Tennis Cool Blue and Passion Red. This year, Konami goes metallic with Glorious Gold and Stylish Silver where a new power meter is added to indicate the ability to service mighty volleys. The quality of the tennis action is on par with the high standards of the series and Konami ekes out another highly enjoyable pair of games.
Similar to previous POT variants, certain characters are exclusive to one version or the other. A pair of special foil-wrapped trading cards with a gold or silver lining is also included in each copy of the game for an added bonus. While supplies last, NCS will includes a bonus tennis ball with early orders.

Yugioh! Sugoroku

GBA Yugioh! Sugoroku no Sugoroku - In Stock

The word "sugoroku" refers to any type of board game where dice is thrown to determine movement. Sugoroku games have been played in Japan for centuries and new types are created on a consistent basis. The latest Yugioh game falls under the category of Traveling Sugoroku (read: steeplechase game) where players travel around a wide area on connected spaces. As would be expected in any game connected to the Yugioh franchise, players may pick up monster cards to use in encounters during the game.

Gundam: Senshi-tachi no Kiseki

GC Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senshi-tachi no Kiseki - In Stock

Bandai hearkens back to Universal Century 0079 just as the One Year War blows up for their Gamecube Gundam gaming debut. Subtitled "Way of the Warrior," players jump into the personas of Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, Shiro Amada, Ramba Ral, or twelve other pilots to strike their respective blows against opposing empires. Ray fights on the side of the Earth Federation while Char rides under the auspices of the Republic of Zeon. In addition to rapid-fire gameplay, strategic elements also factor in the war where troop movement and positioning are important to overall success. While supplies last, NCS will include a bonus MS-06S Char's Zaku II figure with early orders.

Zelda no Densetsu

Zelda: Hyrule Adventure

GC Zelda no Densetsu: 4tsu no Tsurugi+ - In Stock

Nintendo favors Zelda fans with three new games in 4nT as follows:

Hyrule Adventure

Quest with up to three fellow players through Dark World, Mount Doom and other locales. Connect up to four GBA units to the Cube for a personal perspective on the game when playing with pals as everyone competes and collaborates as the situations warrant.

Navi Trackers

Link four GBAs to the GC for four players and rush through Hyrule in a ferret and find action game where stamps are grabbed by the quickest runner.

Shadow Battle

Forget the love and compassion. Up to four players fight each other in a raucous action game where swishing swords and bombs are used to off the other Link. Four colors for the Links provide discernable qualities.

Hyrule Adventure and Navi Trackers may be played by one's lonesome but Shadow Battle requires at least one other player to join the fight. While none of the games would have stood by themselves as a full-priced game, the three of them together provide a bounty of Zelda fun. Link cable included.

Schwag roundup

  NEWS Schwag

We were hoping to get some of the Astro Boy mini plushes or the Armored Core Nexus keychains that are being given away at Japanese retail shops but none of those arrived. We did receive three other items in limited quantities which we'll give away to early preorders while supplies last.

On the left of the photo, we have a Sakura Taisen CD-Rom for the PC/MAC which contains a bunch of data, pictures and other material from the new Mysterious Paris game. In the middle, a nifty and highly detailed MS-06S Char's Zaku II which will be given away to early Gundam Senshi-tachi preorders (while supplies last). To the right, a regulation issue tennis ball encased in a sealed plastic cup and marked with the words "Hyotei Gakuen."

Sakura Taisen 8M Memory

  NEWS General Updates

A few other items also arrived this morning including the new Sakura Taisen 8M Memory Card for the PS2 and the new Shin Sangoku Musou 3 Empires + Shin Sangoku Mushouden bundle.
Playmore has announced a new ship date for the PS2 version of Samurai Spirits Zero. The game now ships on June 24, 2004, docked from the previously revised date of May 20. The Japanese version of Metal Slug 4 on PS2 also ships on June 24, 2004. We checked a few domestic release schedules and see that MS4 is slated to ship in the USA on July 02 but PS2 SVC Chaos and Samurai Spirits Zero have disappeared entirely.
Namco opened preorders overnight for Xenosaga Episode 2: Jenseits von Gut und Bose. Based on our high school German language comprehension, the subtitle appears to read "Beyond Good and Evil." Feel free to correct our mangling of the language. In addition to the regular edition of the game at Y6800, a limited edition will also make it to market at Y9800. When the original Xenosaga LE was released, suppliers charged us a much higher price for the package at the last minute. We have taken this into account in pricing Xenosaga Episode 2 LE but rest assured that we will lower the price if we are afforded a price break. NCS expects delivery on June 24, 2004.
