MOTD Famimaga 64 - May 1998

SOLDOUT
In the news section of Famimaga 64, a photo of the Gameboy with Indiglo backlight is shown. Back then, the portable gaming arena was dominated by the black & white Gameboy and the indiglo unit gave fans a little excitment as well as a solution for sore eyes. Later in the issue, under the Preview Section, a photo of the gold and silver GBs is offered. The units were released on April 14, 1998 at Y6800 and we recall very good sales at about US$75 each.

The news also includes a sneak peek of the Nintendo 64 DD unit and Zelda Ocarina of Time. The first game featured is Powerful Pro Baseball 5 at the dear price of Y7800. Konami must have provided a lot of information because the coverage is mook-like at 20 pages with copious amounts of screenshots, gameplay tips, and management primers. Later on in the magazine, there's another 5-page black & white article on Powerful Pro 5 which is followed by some information on Ozumo 64. A feature on Quest 64 is scads shorter at only 4 pages with some gameplay and adventuring tips. Coverblob Kirby is featured in a review of Super Famicom Hoshi no Kirby 3 where the pink marshmallow takes new forms in a 2-D platform game. The coverage also checks out the creatures that Kirby meets throughout the game.

Previews in the issue include Zelda 64 Ocarina of Time, F-Zero X, Banjo Kazooie, and Yoshi's Story. Towards the end of the issue, there's a colorful bunch of previews on Starfox 64, Choro Q 64, and Super Robot Wars Spirits, A one-page article on the Pocket Pikachu pedometer game shows the unit as it hangs on a belt and virtual Pikachu as it showers, sleeps, baths, and watches the telly. A 2-page article on the Pocket Camera shows off a few examples of the blurry photos the camera is capable of taking.

Ads in the magazine include Eternal Wings: Let's Go!, Snobow Kids, Bomberman Hero, Ozumo 64 and only a few others. Barely enough to support the editors, writers, photographers... As is common in many Japanese magazines, a 4-page fan art section features submissions from readers which invariably feature RPG heroines and other leading lady archetypes

NCS prices each issue at US$5.50 which includes shipping with USPS Media Mail within the USA.
