Minna no Golf Online Cover

90° box flip^ and another 90°v

PS2 Minna no Golf Online BB Pack

For those just  starting out in the "sport," golf is a game best enjoyed alone, with only the caddy providing comfort and solace when your ball drops into the drink. For those with skill and a yen for large crowds, Minna no Golf Online offers it in spades.

Based on the Minna no Golf 3 game, the Online version features a comprehensive golfing experience with excellent control, gameplay and the ability to compete against anyone that may be waiting in one of the lobbies. The two main game modes are:

Free Battle

Strike up fast friendships with players in lobbies which are broken up into age groups - you'll have to stick with players in your age range and hit the links with up to four players.

Real Tournament
Join tournaments as they happen and play with up to 100 players in 18-hole competitions. Leaderboards are updated upon the completion of each hole to show elite players and of course, the bottom rung. Comments may be sent to other golfers - for example, if you're a Mother Theresa type, you may offer encouragement to hopeless hacks or if you're apt to jeer at your betters, ill will may be heaped upon the leaders.

All in all, a great golf game is made even better with the online mode which gathers together video golfing fans into an active and vibrant community of aficionados.

Hardware

The BB Pack in the product title refers to the SCPH-10400 internal HDD and integrated broadband adapter that is bundled with Minna no Golf Online. A copy of BBNavigator v0.30 is also included for going online. Please note that the SCPH-10400 is for use only with PS2 models that are SCPH-3000x and above.

Net de Bomberman cover

PS2 Net de Bomberman BB Pack

The Bomberman franchise goes online with Hudson's latest maze-bombing game. No longer limited to the scheming skills of your neighbors or friends in the same room, Net de Bomberman opens up the challenge to players around the world. Up to seven bombers may play in one online game and different colors for each Bomberman make it easy to discern between one or the other. A little "1P" to "7P" mark above each corresponding player also alleviates the confusion that can occur during frenetic sessions. Appearance-wise, Bomberman has never looked this good - crisp and colorful mazes, well defined Bombermen and great animation.

Macross VF-1A

SOTD Macross Valkyrie VF-1A Maximilian Jenius

We'll resume Scrap Heap Scramble next week but for today, we turn our attention to the 18 boxes of new Macross VF-1A Max Valkyries that we still have crowding our old warehouse. That's 108 pieces of a toy that we'll never sell under normal circumstances. All boxes are sealed and contents are fresh.
We pondered the price... $49? No, that's not an earth shaker. How about $39? That's better but spill some more blood. $35? Feeling warm but it's not hot enough...we need a barn burner. Then it dawned upon us like a shaft of light from the heavens above. $29. We'll lose a few thousand dollars but at least we won't have to look at them anymore... Shipping is not included.

Saturn Fan Vol. 13
219 pages, VG condition

MOTD Saturn Fan Magazine Vol. 13 (1996)

Today's issue of Saturn Fan was originally released on June 21, 1996 and Bahn from Fighting Vipers appears on the cover. Tangent: Bahn's backstory in the game is that he hunts for his father, who abandoned his mother and him in order to exact revenge for years of childhood angst.

The first 10 pages consist of ads peddling software such as Nonomura Byouin no Hitobito, Nights, Death Throttle, Lunar Silver Star Story, Night Striker, and many others. Over the course of the next 200 pages however, ads are relatively scarce and many of the magazine's features are uninterrupted by advertisements.

The magazines kicks off the actual content with "Super Top Scoop" which evaluates the hot games of the day: Street Fighter Zero 2 is given 4 pages of crisp screenshots, character tips and a bit of artwork and Fighting Vipers follows with 4-pages of screenshots and an interview with the lead designer. Two additional fighting games follow in "STS" such as Tohshinden URA and Sailor Moon Super S which both feature crisp photos. The scoops end with Ogre Battle and the Tantei Saburo Jinguuji game.

The original Sakura Taisen gets 6-pages of photos, strategy and hints while Nights eats up another 6-pages which cover the courses in the game and editors hand out some gameplay tips. The highlight of the issue is probably the Far East of Eden: The Apocalypse IV feature (5 pages) which shows off the animation sequences in the game, beautiful screenshots and also talks to the designers.

Ten games are scored in the reviews section and we see that Dragonball Z received a middling 5.0 and Night Striker S earned only a 5.3. There is no game that scores over a 6.5.

A few other games featured in the issue: Last Bronx, Dokyusei -if-, Fatal Fury 3, Debut S, Tokimeki Memorial, and Darius II. There's an E3 report near the back of the issue which previews about 30 of the American Saturn games shown at the 1996 E3 convention. All of the issues are in very good condition and we price today's magazine at US$6.5 which includes Media Mail shipping.
