ETC Magazine of the Day (MOTD)

SOLDOUT
The October 1996 issue of PC-Engine Fan starts off with a 2-page advertisement upon opening up the issue. A library of PC-FC games are shown with box covers and details. Each and every game is priced at Y7800 at a time when PS2 and Saturn games generally waffled between Y5800 and Y6800. The first article visits two NEC executives who talk about the future of the PC-FX and how the console came to be. A few photos are shown along with a shot of the PowerVR chip used in the PC-FX. An 8-page guide on Angelique Special shows players how to get around the game and interact with other characters which is followed by a 2-page spread for Dragon Knight 4. An article for Akazukin Cha Cha (Little Red Riding Hood Cha Cha) displays a good number of snapshots of the game. An article on Blue Breaker focuses on the characters in the adventure and the animations for each lady warrior. Some other games featured include Megami Tengoku, Fire Woman Matoigumi, and the shooter Super God Trooper Zeroigar. A Can Can Bunny Extra DX article checks out the girls in the game and the locations to find them.

PC-Engine Fan Vol. 10 includes a CD-Rom which contains previews of games such as Megami Tengoku, Zeroigar, Akazukin Cha Cha and a small gallery. A section with voice actress samples is also included for hungry listeners.  A magazine feature on voice actresses detail their work and roles while a reader artwork submission page clearly indicates the influence that prevailing styles have on how fans see their favorite heroes and heroines.

Publisher Tokuma Shoten published two programming books for the PC-Engine in Japan in 1996. An Assembly language book was released in the beginning of 1996 while a Basic language book shipped towards the tail end of 1996. Each book contained a boot disk for use on an MSX or PC-9801 computer and a Super CD-Rom which was loaded onto the PC-Engine. The books included a simple schematic for building a "Develo Box" which connects the PC to the PC-Engine for proper data transfer during development. Patches were released in the August 1996 issue of PC-Engine Fan to allow the Develo System to work on IBM PCs and compatibles. We may still have some PC-Engine Fan magazines from August 1996 and we'll post those once we locate them. A number of type-in programs are included in the issue including one called E.O. Dragon Adventure which one actually types in.

Later in the issue, a full episodic drama is included where readers thrill to an engaging piece of literature and a guide to Chip Chan Kick helps players strategize in the only PC-Engine puzzle game. NCS prices each copy at US$25 which includes shipping with Media Mail + Delivery Confirmation in the USA.
